Cause a Disruption!

Bloom True Boot Camp: Week 3
Mon Sept 15
Cause A Disruption
Here we go Week 3... I'm still hanging in there and enjoying the creative surprises that each day brings

Today's prompt is all about moving out of our comfort zone. As an anxiety sufferer I know aaaall about comfort zones but that's a whole other story for another day. I do suffer from artistic comfort zoning too though so bring on the disruption!
Picture
Our aim today is to create using all different materials, techniques and styles than what we are used to. I decided, in the very limited time I had this evening, to just go for it. My disruptive brief for myself was...
  • Use only 3 colours (I chose blue, red & yellow) plus black and white
  • No paint brushes
  • No thinking, no stopping, just doing
  • Must use black in final layer
  • NO flowers
Picture
Gotta be happy with that!
Now off to deal with the disruption caused by me painting when there's a thousand other things to be done!

Thank you Flora for pushing me to paint outside my comfort zone.. it's kinda cool out here :)

Artist Date
What a very cool and clever concept.... an Artist Date.

Coined by author Julia Cameron an Artist Date is a time set aside each week to play with our creativity, have fun, try new things... play. Too often those of us trying to become 'serious artists' and build a creative business forget to have fun with it. I can relate! While I always enjoy the process I'm always considering my next artistic move and how it will fit with my master plan. So focused on achieving I never just play with my paints.
Picture
I was oblivious to this fact but after today I don't think I'll ever forget it or to make time for my regular Artist Date. I had sooooo much fun!!! A few months ago I blogged about a Liquitex workshop I did where I fell in love with their Pouring Medium product. I purchased some and couldn't wait to get home to play. Of course that didn't happen... until today. Check this out....
1. Gather my supplies... canvas panel (I used an old one), acrylic inks, pouring medium, container, alfoil. I made 8 little alfoil cups to go in the container, one for each colour ink.
Picture
Picture
2. Mix some pouring medium with about 10 drops of ink and begin pouring one colour at a time over the canvas until the surface is covered.
Picture
Picture
3. Sit back and watch the magic unfold as the medium takes on a life of it's own, slowly moving and spilling over the edge before settling into place. This can take hours.
Picture

This is an hour later...
Picture
How good is that!!! You can't really tell but the medium is super glossy.. its just beautiful! I will post the finished masterpiece when it's done :)

Thank you a gazillion Flora and Julia for taking me on my very first Artist Date... I had fun  xx

Collaborate
I so wish I had found the time to do this prompt. One of the things I would most like to nurture within myself and create within my community is connection with other creative people. The truth is I don't have anyone, not one person in my life who I feel really knows me and understands my creative passion and certainly not how deep it runs. I long to connect with others who feel the same and to collaborate with them to create not only art and nice things to look at but to use our gifts to inspire and help others to do the same.
Picture
I remember reading that when two like minds get together for a cause it more than doubles the potential between them. Infact it is multiplied enormously and creative ideas begin flowing freely... we've all been a part of that experience, whether it's with hubby deciding how to renovate the kitchen, colleagues at work, a P&C fundraiser, or friends chatting about how to help another. Two minds are definitely way way way better than one.

So anyways... I really want to collaborate. I want to find like minded people and create something big. Something amazing that will make a difference. It's on my to do list and I plan to make it happen one day.
For now tho I will share this story....

A few weeks ago I and my boys spent a beautiful afternoon at my brother's Dan's house. I tought my sister-in-law Nat to crochet while painting with my gorgeous niece Lilly. The boys created amazing things with wood then we all made our own wood fired pizza for dinner.  It was truly a wonderful creative collaboration with my family.

My niece was so  thrilled with her paintings she took them to pre-school the next day and showed them to her friends. A few days ago I was asked if I'd consider coming in to the class room and teaching the other children some techniques. WOW! Just imagine the fun and inspiration I could share there! My mind is  boggling big time!!!
Picture
My very artistic and gorgeous niece Lilli
This is just my little example of the ripple effect that can come from sharing our gifts with the world. I know that is what I am meant to do... my purpose in life if you like and I can feel the universe nudging me closer and throwing me little morsels of encouragement to build my confidence along the way. Just have to find the courage to do it now. I'll keep you posted on that one :)

Thanks Dan, Nat and Lilly. We'll have to do it again soon... those pizzas were divine :) xxx

And thank you Flora for reminding me of the importance of and encouraging me to collaborate and share my gifts with others.

Photo Scavenger Hunt
I've been so looking forward to today's prompt. Photography has always been big in my family. As a kid I remember my Dad was very avid and always had the latest wizbang attachments for his camera (we call them apps these days :) and my brother is a professional photographer. I used to love it too but taking happy snaps is difficult when your life is far from being in a happy place. It's one of those things I really want to pick up again (like piano lessons, tennis and ballroom dancing to name a few) but haven't as yet. Until today....
Picture
I had soooo much fun this afternoon looking for Flora's subject matter and trying to get the perfect shot. Here's my attempts...

1. Explore shadows and light.

Your Life In Lines

Bloom True Boot Camp: Week 2
Thur Sept  11
Your Life in Lines
Today's prompt is all about firstly noticing and then drawing the world around us. Not just looking but really seeing then letting our imaginations create our own versions of what we see.

I do tend to steer well clear of drawing anything. I equate drawing with perfection and having to get it right and I don't think I'm very good at it.
Picture
So today has been a good test for me. Armed with Flora's words of encouragement...  "Remember, the point of this exercise is to gather inspiration and practice SEEING. You cannot do this the wrong way. Your way is perfect. Enjoy." a pencil and some brand new pastels I've got no idea how to use, I created these....
I sketched this portrait of my son Mitch with a pencil while enjoying my afternoon cuppa. I sat there thinking hmmm, what can I draw? Mitch was playing the play station near to me. The thought of attempting a portrait of him seemed completely pointless, I don't draw people, and I looked around for something easier. Then I remembered.. I can't do it wrong! I had to do it. I let myself do it.

What do you think? Not too bad hey... I'm really happy with my efforts considering my expectations. Can't say it looks too much like Mitch but it does look a lot like my friend Cindy's son Luke which is cool!

Maybe I can draw people after all? Maybe I could add some people to my paintings.. I've been wanting to try for awhile but never have the courage?  Maybe I'll give it a go... can't go wrong can I.

Picture
And this is what I threw together with my pastels. I've actually had them for years but never even opened the box. I've never used pastels before so there was a good reason to dig them out tonight. Again I looked around for something to draw. I needed something quick, spontaneous (it's getting late), what's in the fridge. a strawberry it is. I do love strawberry's.

Delicious don't you think?
Picture
So there we are. Not sure I filled the brief exactly but I did have fun so I guess my way is perfect!

Thanks Flora for pushing me to do the things I may never have done otherwise.

Mandala Magic & Embracing the Sensual

Struggling for time this week, and inspiration. So I decided to combine two Boot Camp days into one and whip up a quick Sensual Mandala.

Some of my essential sensual ingredients.....

Candles, lips, fairy lights, music, wild, flowers :)
Picture
Picture
Other sensual delights would include the sea air, strawberry's, encouraging words and loving whispers, painting in the zone, trees, an open fire, a beautiful sunset. And of course someone to share these with would be nice :)

Mmmmm... love love love!!!

Thank you Flora : )

Looking forward to diving in to     Week 2... especially now that I've seen this weeks list of prompts.

Here we go...

Mon Sept  8.

Your Creative Manifesto
Picture
A manifesto is a 'public declaration of policy and aims'. Like a mission statement for your life. Here is my Creative Manifesto...

I live, I breath, I create.  My art is my passion. It fosters my creative dreams and gives rise to my innermost ambitions. It is a nurturing playground for my courage and a safe outlet for my cares. My art is the place I go to in order to thrive and survive in this lifetime. I feel truly blessed and honored to have been given this wonderful creative gift. It is my hearts desire to continue learning and growing and to develop the skills I need so that through it I can bring light, bright and love into the world.

Thank you Flora.. now I have my heart and sole in a paragraph : )

Move Your Body

Sat Sept  6. Move Your Body

Picture
Check... my body has moved
... and no it wasn't from one chair to another ;) I did do my regular(ish) exercise routine this morning.. 15mins brisk inclined walking on the treadmill while browsing through the latest Home Beautiful mag.. love multitasking! 5mins air punching with weights.. my anger management. 10mins low impact cardio on bike.. only got it this week on recommendation from dr after hip probs last week.. love turning 50 :( Then 5mins stretching... loooove stretching. All to my fave move your body music of course... I cannot exercise without music and have a list of pump me up songs on my ipod.
Picture
I know without a doubt the benefits of exercising are enormous for me. I know when I exercise I am lighter, brighter, calmer and cleverer. It lifts me up and everything is easier and more fun. I know I must make time for it. I want to. I try to. This morning was the first time in well over a week. "I'll fit it in tomorrow" is my daily mantra. Then guilt sets in and motivation out.

Sooo... today's prompt has prompted me to set a plan for my exercise. And a reward of course!
Picture
That's my plan. I'm very excited and can't wait to get my new outfit and try on all the other great benefits... should be looking and feeling good for my big 50 birthday bash late October. That's the plan Stan!

Oh look.. tomorrows Sunday... rest day. Planned that well :)

Thank you Flora for inspiring me to prioritise and find time to exercise my mind and body.
Picture
PS. This version of this song is my very fave atm... gets my body (and mind) moving in all directions every time!!!

Fri Sept  5. Let Go

Sometimes life doesn't go to plan.
Sometimes love can't compete, it's no match.
Sometimes in the end we have no choice, we have to leap.
Sometimes we lose our most precious hopes and dreams.
Sometimes tears aren't nearly enough.
Sometimes anger engulfs us.
Sometimes we  grieve alone because no one has died.
Sometimes the loneliness begs... why?
Sometimes we can't find a reason that makes sense!
Sometimes we can't find a reason that makes sense!!!
Sometimes we can't find a reason that makes sense!!!!!
Picture
Sometimes we have to find a way to some how just let it go.
Picture
I'm getting there.
I'm well on my way to letting it go.
I don't think I need it any more.
I am enough on my own :)
I can let it go now.

Let go.

Thank you thank you Flora. Your Bloom True Boot Camp is becoming my therapy... my soul feels lighter today.
